The Exploros Social Studies Program and English Language Arts Program feature article summaries on key learning-standards-based topics. These summaries are typically one page or less, written at Lexile levels below grade level, and address key topics. Examples include:
Rise of Industrial America
Free Soil Party
Dissent in Massachusetts Bay
Winthrop Chandler
The Growth of Populism
The Great Migration (1915-1960)
and nearly 1350 more spread across all courses from U.S. History, to World History, to World Geography, to Civics, to the ELA courses, and more.
Article Summaries Within Learning Experiences
When you assign learning experiences, students may encounter these summaries depending upon what Reading Group each student is given.
Article Summaries Within the Class Pack
These summaries can also be available directly within the Class Pack (this video provides a guided tour). For any class that is licensed with a Gold Subscription of Exploros Social Studies or ELA, you will see a Class Pack icon on the upper right, as shown below (red arrow).
When you click on this icon, you will navigate to the Class Pack where you will see a list of articles. Clicking on any article will bring up a new tab showing the article, which you can print or project on a whiteboard.
Filtering the Article Library
To see all the articles affiliated with a particular course, unit, or learning experience in Exploros, you can use the filters at the top of the Article Library. This will filter the entire collection down to the content you are searching for.
Adding an Article to Your Favorites
If you find an article that you want to save in your favorites for the class, click on the star icon next to the article name. This will move a link to your article into your Favorites tab for easy retrieval later.
You can see the list of your Favorite articles for the class by clicking on Favorites.
You can remove an article from your Favorites by deselecting the star icon.
Sharing an Article with Students in the Class
If you want an article to appear in the Student view of the Class Pack, click the eye icon. When students navigate to the Class Pack, they will see the article listed.
Note that if you share an article with students, it will also be added to your favorites. You can see the articles you have shared with students by clicking on the Student View tab.
You can remove any article from the student view by deselecting the eye icon. The student view of the Class Pack does not have the full library or favorites. It only has the articles the teacher shares with the students in the class, as listed in the Student View tab.
Check Understanding Questions
At the bottom of an article that is accessed via the Class Pack, you will find a few questions. The numbered questions are for reading comprehension. The answers will usually be fact-based, deriving from the article. The question indicated with the green question mark is more open-ended, and may require students to do research outside of the article to provide a thoughtful answer.
