Setting Up Your Exploros Classroom

Set up your classroom, establish routines, and prepare for successful live instruction with Exploros.

Written by Sabrina Valverde

The Live Social Classroom is the core instructional model used in most Exploros programs. In this model, the teacher guides the pace of learning while students move through scenes together, respond to prompts, discuss ideas, and build on one another’s thinking.

Most Exploros classrooms should follow this model. If your program uses a different instructional approach or you are unsure how it should be implemented, reach out through Live Chat for guidance.

The Teacher’s Role

Exploros is designed to support active, teacher-led instruction. During a learning experience, the teacher:

  • Guides students through the scenes and manages the pace of learning.

  • Monitors student responses in real time.

  • Facilitates discussion and academic conversation.

  • Checks for understanding throughout the experience.

  • Uses student thinking to adjust instruction and provide support.

  • Decides when to pause, discuss, clarify, or move forward.

  • Encourages students to explain their ideas and respond to their peers.

Exploros is most effective when teachers actively guide the learning experience rather than assigning it for students to complete independently.

The Student’s Role

Students actively participate throughout the learning experience. Students should:

  • Log in and open the assigned learning experience promptly.

  • Move through the experience with the teacher and class.

  • Read directions carefully and complete each response.

  • Use complete sentences and explain their thinking.

  • Listen to and build on classmates’ ideas.

  • Participate in whole-class, partner, or small-group discussions.

  • Review their work before selecting Share.

  • Know when to use their devices and when to shift their attention to class discussion.

Set Up Your Teacher Display

Before students arrive, decide how you will display the learning experience. Log in to your Exploros teacher account, open the learning experience you plan to teach, and connect your classroom display, projector, or interactive whiteboard.

You have two options for displaying Exploros during instruction.

Option 1: Project Your Teacher View

Project the same teacher view you are using to guide the learning experience. Hide the teacher notes and correct answers.

Option 2: Use Whiteboard Projector View (Recommended)

Whiteboard Projector View lets you project only the student-facing lesson while keeping a separate Teacher View open for Teacher Notes, answer keys, and lesson controls.

For step-by-step instructions on setting up and using this feature, see Whiteboard Projector View.

Before class begins, decide how you will display the learning experience and take a few minutes to teach the lesson to yourself. Click through each scene, review the Teacher Notes, and become familiar with the flow of the learning experience before students arrive.

Establish Exploros Classroom Routines

Classroom routines help students focus on learning rather than the technology. Teach and rehearse these expectations during your first few learning experiences.

Routine

What It Looks Like

Starting the Day

Clearly signal when students will use Exploros through the agenda, verbal directions, or instructions on the board.

Entering Class

Students enter and begin the established class routine promptly.

Logging In

Students log in right away so the process becomes automatic.

Starting a Learning Experience

Students open the assigned learning experience and begin at Scene 1.

Teacher Launch

The teacher briefly explains the purpose and directions and guides the opening discussion.

Work Time

The teacher circulates, monitors responses, facilitates discussion, and supports student thinking.

Academic Responses

Students respond using complete sentences, provide evidence, and build on their peers’ ideas.

Device Expectations

Devices are charged and ready. Students know when to use them and when to shift their attention to discussion.

Attention Signal

The teacher uses a consistent signal to pause work and regain the class’s attention.

Submitting Work

Students review and refine their responses before selecting Share.

Building a Strong Exploros Routine

For the greatest impact on student engagement and learning, students should use Exploros as part of their regular instructional routine. Teachers should facilitate at least 2–3 Live Social Classroom learning experiences each week, making collaborative, teacher-guided learning the centerpiece of implementation.

When implemented consistently, Exploros:

  • Makes student thinking visible immediately.

  • Builds discussion, collaboration, and academic discourse.

  • Supports ongoing formative assessment.

  • Helps teachers respond to student needs.

  • Creates opportunities for differentiation.

  • Helps students feel seen, heard, and actively involved in learning.

Exploros is not intended to increase passive screen time or replace instruction. It is most effective when technology supports interaction, discussion, critical thinking, and instructional decision-making.
