Exploros learning experiences contain opportunities for students to post in the form of short open response, graphic organizers, drawings, and many more input types. We call these posts "Elements" of the learning experience. As a teacher, you have the ability to hide or show such prompts. When shown, students are typically required to complete a prompt. When hidden or skipped, students are not required to complete the element or prompt.
This is useful as a classroom pacing control. When teaching with Exploros in the live classroom, you have time constraints and may need to balance out time for student independent work, collaborative work, classroom dialogue, and teacher explanation. If a learning experience is taking longer than the time you have available, you can skip an element (turn off a prompt) such that students do not need to complete it to progress. In such cases, it is often useful to discuss the prompt since it is integrated into the flow of the lesson, but it is not a required post for students.
To skip an element, do the following:
Roll over the element, and click the Edit button on the right-hand side.
Choose "Skip for all students"
This will hide the prompt and remove the requirement that students answer it. This will occur whether students have posted or not, so it is recommended to hide it before students post. If students post and then you choose to skip, the student responses will be hidden for everyone, including the students who responded.
The process is reversible. You can bring the element back, along with any student posts that were submitted by choosing to require the response. To bring the response requirement back, do the following:
Roll over the element, and click the Edit button on the right-hand side.
Choose "Mandatory for all students"
When an element is skipped, it will show a circle with a line through it on the left-hand side, as shown above. This same icon will appear in the dashboard, indicating that students do not need to post.
When elements are skipped, they are also removed from scoring for a learning experience.
